Profile Page URLs

One of the things that I'm finding really handy is how just about any RIA profile page can be reached by typing in http://www.rateitall.com/NICKNAME directly into the address bar. It really makes it easy to link to people's pages, and also helps with the navigation of the site.

Here are some examples:

http://www.rateitall.com/castlebee
http://www.rateitall.com/irishgit
http://www.rateitall.com/abichara
http://www.rateitall.com/vudija

Where the system breaks down a little bit is if the person has a space or a symbol in their nickname. For example:

GTH's page is:
http://www.rateitall.com/genghis%20the%20hun

EO's page is:
http://www.rateitall.com/Eschew%20Obfuscation

For this reason, I'm recommending that folks with spaces and symbols in their user name get rid of them. For example, GTH could become GenghisTheHun.

If you want to make it easy for folks to find your profile page, it might not be a bad idea.

    Yes, this is old news... but, it's coming into play a bit with the redesign, as once it goes up, we're not going to allow spaces and symbols in new user registrations.

    I've gotten a couple of questions about how to change RIA nicknames - go to your profile page, and then click on "view and change your registration info."

    Excellent suggestion. Took about 10 seconds to go from "Andrew%20Scott" to "AndrewScott".
