Invasion of the FB'ers

The RateItAll Facebook application is starting to get a little traction. The swarm of new members with nicknames starting with "FB" are all using RateItAll for Facebook.

I think what we're seeing is a glimpse of what RateItAll would be like if it were a mainstream site with hundreds of new reviews posted per minute.

If you play this out, it would seem that the ability to filter the recent reviews page by your trusted network would be an important feature.

  1. First of all, good work with the facebook application. It seems like it's really taking off.

Some sort of filter on the recent reviews page would be a good addition though, as the overall quality of reviews has definitely taken a hit with the sudden increase in quantity. If a filter is added, would it be possible just filter out the FB reviewers as opposed to filtering by trusted network? Becuase in the past the recent reviews page was a good way of adding reviewers to my trusted network. So if I can only see reviews from my trusted network, it eliminates some of the functionality of the page. Just a suggestion, keep up the good work.

  2. Twansalem, that suggestion is on the table as well - so instead of filtering by trusted network, you could filter by RIA, FB, Widget, etc. Also, MySpace is opening up as well so eventually we will see a swarm of MSxxxx users.

I hear you on how the recent reviews page is (was) a great way to find new folks to add to your network.

  3. I've noticed an abundance of reviews from the fbXXXX reviewers on my Movies of 2006 weblist for Borat. Currently there are over 260 ratings for that item, while I have not noticed any new entries for other items on that list. Just curious as to why one item would be rated so often, while I haven't noticed any other items receiving more traffic.

  4. When an FBer adds the RIA app, we immediately launch them into a speed rate of about 20 well known items. Your Borat listing is one of those items. You can probably guess some of the others based on what people are rating.

  5. Makes sense. I wasn't aware that the speed rating was a small sample and not inclusive of all items on all lists.

  6. Yeah, it's a Facebook only game. A scripted speed rate. I think we're going to roll something similar out to RIA so we can do compatibility testing across a basket of identical items.

  7. A lot of regulars have taken a permanent vacation from your site and I don't blame them! The tobacco/dogfood people were bad enough. Now its scintillating reviewers from the facebots

  8. JC, whoever you are, you're welcome back any time. No need to just lurk around the blog.

  9. I think some sort of an FB filter for the recent comments page makes sense - I've put it on the development queue. If I see one more "They're Great!!!!!" review for Frosted Flakes, I think I'm going to shoot myself in the head.

  10. Is there any way that the fb's could select an individual name?

  11. Oscar, that's a possibility. I think we're going to start with a filter on the recent comments page though - hopefully we can get that up today!
